Dinan tunes transferable?
Hey guys sorry about the dumb question. I have not seen this one come up though... So obviously a JB3/4, procede or any piggyback can be removed and reused or sold...
So how does it work for a Dinan flash, say stage 2 n55 in my case. What is the fate of this tune if I get rid of the car? Is it married to that vehicle? Can it be removed and programmed into my next purchase? ... Also does anyone know if Dinan charges to install software? I was really hoping its included in the hefty price tag I hope my questions are understood. Sorry if it's been asked. I tried a search already on this. I pumped for this tune regardless! I know it's pricey and does not put up numbers like my old mighty n54 did... I still think its gonna run strong. I'm starting my fund as of right now! Thanks for your help. Cheers

Good question, but I have no idea as to the answer. Call Dinan and ask them directly, it will be a much more reliable answer than what you will get hear. It seems there are really 2 questions here:
If I sell the car, can I have the Dinan tune I bought applied to my new car? (Assuming they are both N55.) Or, if I sell the car, does the new owner "inherit" the Dinan tune? (Obviously the tune is still on the car, but this would apply in a re-flash situation, say after BMW reprograms for a repair or recall.) If you get answers, please post them as I'm sure I'm not the only one who is wondering. And Dinan should be able to refer you to a written policy, otherwise good luck in getting them to honor a verbal commitment. Finally, the price does include the software flash, as well as "free" re-flashes for "life" when needed due to BMW software updates. However, some dealers will try to charge you 1/2 to 1 hour labor to "access the DME". In my experience you can talk them out of this charge, at least the first time. The Dinan tune may not produce the raw horsepower of some others, but it is a very comprehensive tune and should provide much better reliability and drivability, which is why Dinan can "backfill" the warranty. And that warranty coverage is probably a large part of why it is so expensive. I've had a Dinan Stage 2 on an n54 for almost 3 years, it has been re-flashed at least 3 times, and I have never regretted the purchase. |

Software stays with the car ie if you sell the car the new owner inherits the tune. This happened to me; I bought a used 135i and didn't know it had a Dinan tune (and neither did carmax), almost a year after purchasing it and I noticed the Dinan sticker on the cover for the computer so I did some research and found out it did at one time have the Dinan Stage 2 software, asked the dealer to reflash with Stage 2, Dinan paid labor to reflash car. All is good.

i just purchased an 08 135i that had Dinan stg 2 attached with the VIN. I'm going into a Dinan dealer BMW shop tomorrow to get it installed, but they want about $90 for the labor. Is this right, or will Dinan pay for it if I contact them?

Still sounds like a sweet deal to activate $1400 dollar software. It'll be sweet if you get them to pay... but it not a bad deal regardless
