My BMW Remote Mobile App Now Available

New mobile app lets customers access remote services for their vehicles.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ
– February 15, 2012… BMW announced that the My BMW Remote app is available for Apple iOS devices beginning today. This app allows many BMW customers to access remote features for their vehicle by using their mobile device and the power of BMW Assist. These features include remotely locking and unlocking of doors, getting the location of their parked vehicle, and sending Google Local Search results to their vehicle. Additionally, some customers will even be able to send a command to sound the horn or flash the headlights of their BMW.

Customers who have an active BMW Assist Safety Plan, a compatible vehicle, and an Apple device running iOS 4.0 or later will be able to download the app to their device starting today via the Apple iTunes store. No changes are required to their BMW. My BMW Remote operates on the customer’s mobile device, sending remote commands to their BMW.

My BMW Remote includes the following functions in detail:

VEHICLE POSITION – If the vehicle’s ignition is off, and it is located within 0.6 miles (1km) of the mobile device, the current vehicle location can be displayed on a map in the mobile device:

The following vehicles will have Remote Horn and Remote Flash Headlights available, in addition to Remote Door Lock & Unlock, Google Local Search, and Vehicle Position:

- 3 Series Sedan from Model Year 2012 or later
- 5 Series Gran Turismo from Model Year 2010 or later

My BMW Remote is just one of the many ConnectedDrive services available to BMW customers. BMW ConnectedDrive combines various elements from online applications, driver assistance systems, call center services and solutions for the integration of mobile devices. As a result, BMW customers are provided with an exceptional form of mobility, with more safety, more convenience, and more infotainment.

Here's a short clip we recorded of the app (in beta form) in action from the 2010 Paris Auto Show

Just got this but haven't used it yet. Pretty cool! How come the 2012 135i isn't on the list for everything? I have BMW apps and everything.

Yes! Finally! I've been using the "UK version" but it has been spotty, at best. Can't wait to see if this one works!

So I just called BMW Assist since I couldn't log in. They were slammed (waited on hold for almost 15 minutes) and the girl that I talked to said she has been doing these calls all day for this app.

A couple of things she told me:

1. When you enter in your username, it should be your email address that you used to register for the BMW assist account (see the other thread on this here) and that you need to do it IN ALL CAPS.

2. She also said that when you call BMW Assist to change it, it could take up to 24 hours for the new password to register in the BMW USA system...so there could be a delay.

3. If your account is locked because you entered in the wrong information too many times, they will need to reset your password. There is apparently no way around that.

Just thought I'd pass that along for others that may have issues.

Ok, so I can log into My BMW on the BMWUS web site but can't log into this app. Should be the same user ID and PW?

Looks like the app may not be quite ready for prime time.

Same here! One of the user eluded to having your username all capitalized, but that didn't work either

So having BMW Assist would mean your good to go? No need for comfort access I presume?

Sorry guys I'm a little confused.... Do we have to be paying for BMW assist for this to work? I'm guessing so, but wasn't sure.

That appears to be the case. I have everything on my car except BMW apps andi can't get this to work. I assume I have BMW Assist or is that something I have to pay for on top of the warranty. If so, then I didn't get it and as such, won't be able to use this app.

US - My BMW Remote

Your car must be equipped with BMW Assist and you must have your account established and enrolled in the Safety Program. If you didn't setup your account at your dealership, you can call BMW Assist at 1-888-333-6118 and they will help you. After your account is setup, you have still have to do an activation call from your car.

I spoke to a BMWNA customer service rep and he stated the following, "Once your account is setup, you have to enter all letters in CAPS for both the user name and password. Once you log in, you have to create a 4 digit PIN that will be required everytime you access the APP."

I don't have mine working because I have to provide proof of ownership. Hope this helps all you iPhone owners.

Isn't BMW Assist already included as part of the Premium Package? What is not included is the BMW Concierge which is a subscription service, but I don't think you need that in order for the Remote App to work as long as you have BMW Assist.

Yes, but you have to activate BMW Assist.

Ok. So apparently they enroll you in BMW Assist at the dealership. It's free for four years as per the website. However, you have to push then SOS button on the car within 60 days and speak with an operator to keep the thing active.

I don't push buttons labeled SOS for kicks and never got a reminder to extend the plan.

So, in order for this work, I have to take my car in tomorrow and have them reset the computer, wait a couple hours, and then pus the SOS button to complete the process.

At that point the app should work. The advice regarding the all-caps entry for the user name is now being relayed by the reps.

Hope this helps. It looks like a useful app.

Are you serious? You have to take the car in to the dealership just so you can get BMW Assist working?

What about those of us who did ED? When does the 60 day timer start?
