Better mpg with power button on, wtf??

I decided to try my regular commute in regular mode (power button off) for a week/tank to just see what the mpg improvement would be. It's normally set to on because I like it that way. The car averaged ~14mpg. Power button on always 15mpg+ on the same route. Am I missing something here???

yes, your driving style is obviously highly variable in nature.

Similar traffic, same roads, driving style the same (as far as I am aware). Kind of expected to see ~ 16mpg+ with off. Weird.

1 MPG difference seems hardly noticeable that it could be attributed to the button.

Only one week, a full tank. Not going to do it again because it was boring. :-)

True, thought I would share it anyway. It is staying on in future.

maybe because the pedal is so sensitive you actually have to modulate more cognitively versus just mashing the numb non power mode. i know if i drive with power off and then turn it on i have the tendency to drive more aggressive unintentionally until i adapt to the new pedal feel. does it give better mpg? nah, probably not.

I notice the same thing with my e46 M3 as well. I think with the power mode on, you tend to modulate the gas pedal more carefully. That said, the e46 MPG is still bad for a 6 cylinder.

I've experienced the same and it surprised me.

Averaged 15.5mpg since purchasing the car and driving in full comfort/non-power.

Decided to turn EDC/Power on with key.

Since then, I've averaged 17.5mpg over the course of 3 tanks with no other changes in driving.

This is not based on the dash readings. This is based on miles driven divided by gallons of gas needed to fill.

The margin of error is probably 1-2 mpg so there is no difference..the power button is the only thing left to remind me of the turbo snap my 335 use to give..

I just dont understand the point of tracking mpgs on this car..whats the point?
