Experienced the M, it was jerky
I am torned between the 3.0si and a M. The si seemed to transition through the gears a lot smoother. On the other hand, the M was jerky 1st to 2nd (low speed driving). Is this typical with high performance vehicles or is this something I will get use to after driving a lot and knowing the characteristics of the car.:rocks:

Ive heard that the M is rather twitchy, seems to be a main complaint about it.

I find the M to be one of the easiest cars to drive. It IS twitchy at first, but after a couple of days, you'll be able to shift it smoothly. The car begs to be driven, so you can't feather it and expect it not to balk back at you. I don't have any issues with it jerking anymore. I use mine as a daily driver, and it's a dream.
Some people have done the CDV delete to help with the twitchiness. |

The CDV is the culprit. I have a modified one sitting at home but I am thinking of not replacing mine because I am used to the original one....
My shifts are very smooth now. My foot has compensated for the CDV |

Thanks for the replies guys and gals. I don't think I will let the jerkiness discourage me from the M. I think it will just get smoother as I spend more time behind the wheel.

It's definitely the CDV that you're experiencing. Basically you're letting the clutch out faster than the CDV will let the fluid flow. You will have to feather it out a little more or remove/replace the CDV I chose the later & love the change. :rocks:

CDV, just got off of www.zeckhausen.com, for $35 plus shipping I can solve this problem. Awesome. Now my question is, although it is probably an easy DIY, will BMW install for me without voiding the warranty.

IIRC, Some owners have had the dealer do the re&re.
I had mine done by an independent tech.

I say your best bet would be to get an independant tech to do it or do it yourself. Unless you are uncomfortable with letting your lines bleed a bit of fluid. I got my CDV in hand and have still yet to find a good weekend to crawl under the car... |

Don't try it unless you're prepared to drive it home.

Agree with those who say that it is maybe "stiff" or "twitchy" at first but not only do you get used to it you learn to appreciate the directness of it all. Also BMWs get smoother over time like wine- after a while driving any other car will feel flabby and soft. Go for the M if you can afford it and you will never regret it
