Best to contact RIV directly and find out. Some vehicles require surprising modifications.

http://www.riv.ca/vehicleadmissibility.aspx

Note 1: BMW Canada informed Transport Canada that ALL modifications MUST be performed (and documented) by an authorized BMW Canada or MINI retailer and must be completed before a recall clearance letter can be issued by BMW Group Canada. Contact an authorized Canadian retailer for information on exact nature and costs of modifications required. Modifications vary by model and may be expensive.

Sounds like you better contact the dealer.

DRL is programmable. Just make sure its set to on
so no mods were necessary

And get your US dealer to turn it on, as it'll be cheaper than the Canadian dealer.

you can change the setting.
I have no iDrive and the setting is just using the BC to the setting

With iDrive, you can do it through there

Yeah I understand that you can just turn DRLs on. Things like cluster change?

I had my 135i temporarily imported into Canada for a while (the process is similar) and I didn't have to change anything. Just set the DRL's to on and canuck tire will pass you. Other than that there's nothing else that needs to be worried about. The dash has kph in small numbers so that's fine. The only other thing is the airbag maintenance sticker needs to be bilingual (english/french) but I don't think the car even has one of those so yea, that's it.

No cluster change necessary as it has MPH and KPH.
I did not do any modifications at all. Just turn on DRL on the BC and that's it.

It's very easy but just make sure you weight pros and cons.

According to BMW spec. You must replace the cluster. And get a recall leter from BMW.

I believe that is correct, plus I think the US warranty is not valid in Canada if you have not done that, ie. got the letter from BMW. Not positive of that, but think so.

It is correct. The US warranty if in 4yr/80,0000 is valid in canada. Maintenance is not valid nor is extended warranty.

I work at a BMW, I just read this stuff this morning

Clarification please

KayJay,

Do you mean all BMW imported from US that has warranty is also valid in Canada also?

Or do you mean a US imported BMW that has cluster changed by BMW and a recall letter from BMW Canada plus whatever else required, only qualifies for Warranty in Canada?

For Gods sake read Modmike's sticky at the beginning. The biggest issue is getting the Warranty Vehicle Inquiry (if memory is correct) from a US dealer. This suffices for recall letter. I've imported 4 BMW's from the US.

FFS the question is what needs to be changed, not the import process itself smart ass.
