New stable mate :)

After test driving 4 separate Porsches and the Ferrari California I will say that all variants except for the Cayman are really trending towards the daily driving crowd and appeasing to new a market of drivers. *More power to both Porsche and Ferrari they all have wait lists on their products so obviously its working - just not what I was looking for. The new 991 in particular shocked me greatly from a feedback perspective, the chassis is so advanced and the steering so accurate that you seem to always be waiting for the road to talk to you and nothing happens, very different then my 997.2 Targa4S. Yes they are piping noise into the cabin but I would not say it is any more aurally pleasing than the M5's active sound just different. Maybe the new GT3 will impress but I really wanted something to make me excited and nervous, maybe even a cab top to compliment the M5. Off to Audi I headed!

I had never even considered Audi or even an R8 but so glad I went - the R8s are special and still quite analog. They had a 2012 R8 GT Spyder V10 sitting alone in the corner after finishing our MT V8 test I took it for a surprise spin and was sold! The MSRP of these cars is ridiculous - only 333 (coupe/cab)made and 18 Spyders in Canada. Anyhow was able to do well pricing wise and picked it up. This car perfectly compliments my M5, could not be happier. Delivery is tomorrow. Nice to have a V10 back in the garage - last was the E60 and I missed it!

Enjoy the pics.. will take some next to the M5 at some point.

Admins please move this thread if its in the wrong area.

ahh . . . so winter has finally released it's grips on Canada, heh? I haven't figured out the replacement for my Targa4S yet. I've been thinking about a 991 Cab but I've got commitment issues! Now I think I'll have to pay a visit to Audi.

This is an incredible and beautiful car. Drive fast. Drive safe.

Congrats, R8 V10 will be my next car hopefully. Such a perfect duo with the M5. I would never get sick of that sound.

Pretty car, but not an enthusiast car - which is why I could never own one myself. Where I live, it is unfortunately a car for the "ladies, check me out... I don't know anything about performance cars, nor could I really drive one if given the chance" set.

That said, my experience is that things are very, very different in Canada (you guys are very lucky to live around normal people). So, I'm not lumping you into that pile. I'm just sharing some of my local perspective on how the car is perceived here.

Enjoy it in good health.

Scott, the GT is different. Read up on it. It's most definitely an enthusiasts car.

You live in FL and we go down there a lot for vacation. Not sure anything is normal but I love the sun, beaches, food, and shopping I think NY, CALI, and FL have the highest concentration of exotic cars in the world and do understand your point. I have pretty much driven everything sub $250k and nothing comes close when you talk about a pure drop top "sports car" experience. If I wanted people to look at me I would have spent my money on a cheaper R8 or even jumped for a Ferrari/Lambo. If you are ever in Toronto drop by and I will personally take you out for a drive!

Are you serious? Have you ever driven an R8 V10 quickly? The car is amazingly fast and handles beautifully. It does attract lookers for sure, but it is a 'Driver's car', especially in the GT version. That's why the R8 has won multiple European car magasine 'shoot-out' tests.
Congrats to the OP. You made an awesome decision.
