Putting the car on jack stands without the plastic jack points?
I've searched everywhere, but have never really gotten a definitive answer. I have Y shaped jack stands, which obviously do not fit well onto the plastic jack points. I looked under my car today to see that I am actually missing 2/4 of the plastic jack points. Instead of getting replacements, can I just remove the existing 2 plastic pads and position the jack stands there without needing modification?
Thanks |

No; suggest you fabricate a piece of hardwood into your "Y" to fill in the "Y" then buy 2 new jack pads-they are $14 each from BavAuto.
Another thought, any time you go to a garage and they put your car on a hoist, the car may not be rock steady and the points w/o pads will get damaged & eventually may no longer accept replacement pads w/o much difficulty. Alright, guess I'll go get some replacements. I'll probably just cut a hockey puck in half and stick the flat side into the jack pad and then lower the rounded edge onto the jack stand.

And about the jack, I've heard people cutting the bottom of old shoe soles to use on their jack to protect the jack points under the car. Last edited by pj.rodriguez; 06-29-2013 at 10:07 PM.. Reason: Forgot to add something. |

Harbor freight also has rubber adapters for certain Y shaped jack stands that will probably prevent some damage, though i'm not sure if that's the way you wanna go instead of the hockey puck. I think some people just lay a flat puck underneath the jacking point and then put the jack stand underneath that too.

Use better jack stands. I have a set of these, that use a rubber pad just like a lift. |
