Looking for a reliable place to wield muffler

Hi guys,

I picked up a BMWP exhaust and I need some wielding done. Anyone have any experience or know a reliable place?

Thanks.

You might be better using the BMW clamp that joins those 2 pipes and normally comes with a PE when you buy it.

Thanks, I brought it by a muffler place and they said that since the cut was so close to the muffler they wouldn't be able to use a clamp. I was quoted around $150 for the wielding and $150 for the install. Anyone know if that's a good price?

Cheers.

When you buy the PE from BMW it does not use a clamp there. The muffler comes with a pipe that goes to, and includes, the flange to attach it to the stock center pipe. This one was cut for whatever reason.

I think NoirthernDancer was referring to the y-pipe delete and the clamps you use to connect it to your cut catless mid-pipes. While with mine the previous owner had to cut it so that it would fit on a 128i.

Cheers.

I'd get a second quote.

The length of pipe where the OP has the muffler clamp is 1 and 5/8inch on my 128 BMW PE which looks like the same distance in the pic above. OP may have gotten a 128 PE. In any case, OP can use the BMW joining muffler clamp that comes with every 128 BMW PE.

A check on realoem shows the muffler clamp as "clamping bush" and is part number 183 075 364 26 & is about $50

Thanks, the previous owner purchased a 135i PE and had it cut to fit their 128i. I called a franchise, Muffler Man and they said $150 total, don't know if I can trust them with my car though. I wonder why there's such a huge difference.

Got it done today. The shop charged me only $90+tax and I'm very happy, they did a great job. All around the tone is lower and more noticeable, there's has some crackle and pops when you hold the gear. I wanted a little more so I guess I'm waiting till I can afford some N55 midpipes. Cheers!

Glad to hear that's done. Now you can wield your welded muffler!

After a week the exhaust tone has really settled in. It's a lot on pronounced now and I'm really happy with it. I'm thinking I won't need the N55 mids anymore and anyone on the fence about the BMW PE, you should totally do it. Cheers.

I've also been getting better gas mileage. Don't know if it is cause it's more free flowing, weighs less or my mind is playing tricks.
