ESS full exhaust, BPM tune, Dinan intake -Emission Check

Hello Fellow Texans,
Just installed the Dinan intake, next mods are the ESS fulls exhaust and a BPM tune. But before I do that, I wanted to ask if anybody in Texas has this config and will there be any issue with the yearly emission check.

I have the full Akra and Benvo's tune. With his tune, everything is good at inspection time.

Oh, that is so great to hear.. I have the same exhaust and Evolve tune and some people said I will not pass.

I am also considering supercharger and I asked ESS guys, they told me that they can supply "emmision test" friendly file, but I'd still need a stock x-pipe to pass, which I actually haepve, but hate to go through trouble of install/uninstall

If you car is throwing no codes, it will pass. I know you have to go in your own county. My inspection place is in Galveston County. If you live in Galveston County, PM me and I will hook you up with him. If you are in Harris County or others, I am not sure where to send you. Nobody is going to climb under your car and look for cats. You just have to have no CEL codes. Then you are good to go. If you have a tune that overrides the O2 sensor CEL's, why would you swap the x-pipe? I can't say about ESS, but Benvo's tune works fine with my Akra x-pipe. No way I am changing that thing every inspection. Unless it is on a rack, nobody can see the x-pipe.

That's not correct ^^^^

Problem is that the way most tuners "turn off" the cel is by basically shutting down the o2 sensors. So the emissions test via obd II will fail because the o2 sensors will show up as "not ready".

So unless your tune can shut off the o2 sensors in a way that maintains readiness, not going to pass

Well Benvo's works. I cannot speak for any other tuner.

That's cool, and it's possible, most tuners just don't do it because it is illegal to tamper with emissions monitoring devices.

My point remains the same, just because the cel is turned off doesn't mean the car will pass readiness.

Glad the tune works for you

The beauty about the ESS exhaust is that the cats sit in the stock location, so you shouldn't have any codes.

ESS exhaust and BPM Stage II tune, your car will pull so much harder.

I want to get the BPM tune also but not sure if I should wait till I get my exhaust installed first. What do you guys suggest ? Do the tune now or after the exhaust has been installed? Thinking of a ESS full exhaust .

Don't take my word for it, and call him to confirm (he won't be in the forum for a while unless something changes), but you can run a stage 2 tune as long as you have 93 gas. You can then get exhaust later.

Anyway I'm going to get akra exhaust , dinan diff with BPM tune and coding from Mike!

I decided to go with Akra instead of ESS.

You can definitely get the tune before you get the exhaust. We just suggest reloading the tune once you install the new exhaust. Easy peasy.

Akra isnt as loud as ESS and the exhaust note sounded more exotic as compared to the exhaust note of an american muscle car. It sounded distinct to me.

I did a lot of research and the ESS does seem to have more performance but in the end the exhaust note of the Akra was more appealing to me. Plus Mike Benvo influenced my decision too.

Once you move to a full exhaust system, they will all make good power for the most part. I highly recommend the Akra. Best made and gives you a weight reduction unlike most others.

I would love weight reduction but its only 14kg over the weight savings of the ESS. nice but not sure how noticeable that is. It certainly one of my considerations in trying to decide between the two though
