Nürburgring times for the M3/M4?
With so many spy pics and professional race car drivers behind the wheel of the M3 & M4 on the Nürburgring you'd think by now we'd have some official lap times? I know it's not the holy grail of a car's performance but these numbers do provide somewhat of a pecking order for the class competition.

I think the E92 M3 was about 8:04 or something like that. I think it is a given that the M4 will be faster, so it would be nice if they could just ballpark a figure. Kind of like when they said it would have above 369 tq, they could maybe say something like in the low 7:50's is expected, etc. etc.

Anyway, if this is a Sportauto time, my guess, in part based on a simple power to weight regression analysis is 7:5X. If the car comes with super aggressive, near race rubber and BMW throws a very fast driver at the task they should be able to break in to the 7:4X range. Quite tough to make any more decisive predictions than that.

Rumors from Germany:
Expect around 7:35-7:40 with a normal skilled driver. (f.e. Horst von Saurma-Jeltsch from the sport-auto magazine supertest, godfather of all cartests) The BMW test drivers did 7:32 on winter tyres early 2013 with some more power (around 450hp) and a highly tuned F82 (500+hp hardcore version) on slick tyres, driven by the BMW testdriver with the biggest balls, did an incredible 7:12, the rumors say... |

I said: Rumors!!
No evidence exept some spectator timing! Rumors are from M-Gmbh, btw.. The 7:12 (500+hp, slicks) is hard to believe for me, too... But less than 7:40 would be great! |

I also shot down his analysis of recodings that indicated the car had an 8000 rpm redline here. Some credibility issues for sure.

The rumored V6 is most probably reality and could be tested in the F8x-Mules, but not for the M3/M4 itself. On the other hand the rumored weight savings are much lower than this sources said ... under 1500kg/3306lbs DIN-weight is not so spectacular as under 1500kg/3306lbs EU-weight as claimed by this sources. I think an ~7.40 NOS-time on sport tyres should be possible, because nearly all experts claims the M3(?)/M4 reached the fastest BMW time on NOS ever. But 7.32 on winter tyres and not perfect conditions seems nearly impossible .. also with the possible 450hp of an Competition Package. An 7.12 seems to be the same BS as an hardcore M4 with 500+hp ... if this S55 engine could produce 500 and more hp, it would be sure that also the regular M3/M4 would get at least 450+hp !!! Anyone in germany with a chronometer for estimated times?, how is this posible?. Only have to wait in some point of the track and measure the time on the M3/M4 test.
