Starting in drive mode - 2013 M3
Hi Everyone -- quick question for you. Is there a way to start the car in automatic drive mode versus manual mode? Right now I have to push the lever to the right twice. The first time it goes into manual gear 1 and the second time it goes into automatic mode. I'd like to be able to put it in automatic mode via one maneuver. Is it possible?

Get the GTS DCT software update... the Euro versions of the car get D mode as the default.

I don't think that's terrible considering it remembers your last used S mode.

Plus i think you get better gas mileage with the GTS software in D2 do to the less RPM shifts. To bad the first thing i do is put it in D4.

Gas mileage should never be spoken in these forums.

Technically it's a software flash. There's no way to do it with regular coding. But yes, Mike can hook you up.

Hi CKSV,
as mentioned Euro SW should do the trick. My car start in the mode I left it e.g. S or D, and in the levels you left the car. For instance I have S4 and D2, usually start in D(2) to go S(4) when the car is getting warmed up. Btw not sure I got why you need to push stick twice, does the car start in N..? Cheers, Nik |

LOL, i dont worry about it, especially how i drive, even my twin turbo explorer doesnt get great gas mileage with its 93 octane tune.
One thing i do wonder about is, my M has a 93 octane tune also, but what if drive out to Cali, which i plan on doing at some point, and you guys only have 91 octane? with my explorer i can change it in 3 minutes, cant do that with the M , and im pretty sure octane boosters are a no no.

I went in for a idrive controller replacement and had coding and GTS DCT software. I was anticipating the coding could be erased but did not realize they can also reverse the GTS DCT software. I thought it was totally separate from coding and permanent. Money wasted, oh well did not feel any much different anyway.

It's a perfect setting for when the car is cold and/or you are in a parking lot, which is pretty much every time you start the car. Then once it's warm and ready to go, you push the lever over to go into your S mode of choice. You ARE driving in S, right?
