Installing JB4 on N55..do it yourself or hire someone?

Hello all,

I just ordered the JB4 for my N55 135i (2012) and the harness came today with USB cable. Should I try to do the install myself or should I take it to a shop?

I'm in the Chicagoland area, if anyone could do it for me would be happy to pay for your help. Thanks!

I was able to install the Intake by myself, but this looks more complicated.

It's a breeze. Bring it down to Peoria and I'll do it for you.

DIY, read the guide put out by BMS and give it a shot. My understanding is that the N55 version is even easier to install than the N54. Plus then you can uninstall on the quick for dealer visits. Invaluable.

OK, thanks. But i'm confused which guide it is:

http://burgertuning.com/support.html

Is it the one titled "E9X & 135i N55 Stage1 & N55 JB4"

I have a 2012 135i (N55).

Thanks!

The N55 is substantially harder than the N54 one but it's still an easy DIY...

What you mean a quit for dealer visit? Because my car is under warranty, 2012. And I have extended warranty for 6 years 160,000km. I want more Power, but cant install a cobb, and maybe jb4, but dont want my dealer to see It si they stop warranty on it.

He is saying that if you do it yourself, then you will know how to remove it for when you visit the dealer.

Now, whether you do actually remove it for a dealer visit is up to you.

I was scared to death when I did mine but I was very methodical and read ever step about 5 times. Basically just don't unplug anything that you don't need to and you're fine. If you're doing the flex fuel wires on the fuel rail (not sure if they're included now). That's going to be the toughest part. You have to use muscle memory to remember the orientation and location of the plug to get it back in since you can't see where it goes. Once you've done it once you've done it a million times though. It's one of those things. Don't let anyone else do it. They don't care about doing it right as much as you do.

Did you ever take yours out when you went to the dealership in Calgary for dealer visits?

I say DIY but get someone with experience to help/supervise if you have never done this before and you're not fully confident in it.

I only had one for a relatively short period of time and did not make any dealer visits while I had it.

Depending on what I was going in for would have determined whether or not I kept it on.

Thanks for the input guys...it took my about 3 hours but I did get it all done and it's working just fine...got the maps configured, the guage sweep, and boost is set to the fuel guage...so it's all good. And yea, it's crazy powerful now!

I installed my mine last weekend. Super easy to do! I think the hardest part was getting the cowl back on. It took me some time to get it to fit properly again. Now that I know how to do it, it shouldn't be too difficult next time.
