I went from 255kW on Cobb S1+ aggressive, to 290kW with PTF.
It is more the smoothness in delivery a protune yields that I noticed. I later got PTF to do a second map to use as a daily driver with a more linear torque curve. It still yields 275kW. |

Downpipes will give you a significant gain as well.

i do really want to go catless but the hassle of having to pass emissions yearly just sucks.

I wasn't going to install dps either but I was talking with local shop owner and he only charges $160 to install down pipes. I might just get them and swap in stock ones when I have to take emissions. U can do that as well

After the initial install, you are going to have to double that number. $160 put the stock dp back on and then $160 after the test to put the catless dp back on.
How often do you have to do these tests? Also, be aware that just because a shop is a Cobb pro tuner, that does not necessarily mean they do BMW. They need to purchase different software from Cobb to do BMW vs., say, subaru. |

My experience with DP's is that they net more torque with a tune and sustain power longer due to reduced engine heat and increased flow allowing a more aggressive tune; not necessarily make more HP. Me and my friend both have Pro-Tunes, one car is Stg 1+ and the other is Stage 2+. On the dyno both cars make the same HP, Stg 2+ has more torque and has never had an issue doing multiple pulls but that's it.
My car, the Stg 2+ car is currently undergoing PTF treatment by Jake who has been great but it's a spikey little bugger and as a result is experiencing WOT boost cut. I'm keen to run the car again when this has been sorted out. For the record, both cars only gained like 6whp vs OTS; I'm hoping there's more there. |

Yeah, not too excited about the numbers really. We run on Dyno Dynamics so I'm aware that peak numbers are down vs Dynojet but I would still expect a 15-30whp delta between OTS and ProTune between the runs on the same dyno.
My friend ran the Pro-Tune first and then switched to the OTS right after and only gained like 6whp. I'm not sure what's up as both cars are fresh, cared fur and we have great fuel (94oct) over here. What I can say is that both cars are incredibly drivable and all the OTS flat spots are gone. I love how it drives and can't recommend PTF enough but I really hope there's more power in there somewhere. Loads of cars ran on the same day and most stock cars made the figures the manufacturer claimed (within a couple of HP), a stock 1M made 20bhp over stock and a stock N55 135i with just a FMIC made 20bhp over stock so the potential on the dyno was there to see some good gains.
