Winter rides
As spring is finally drawing to a close I can't wait to ditch the winter ride and get my E90 out on the road.
It's a nice enough vehicle, leased a '13 Ram crew cab back in November to drive during the winter. No real complaints with the truck, but every day I drive it, it just makes me miss my M. So I guess my question is, for those of you that also garage the M for the winter, what do you drive in the winter months and are you happy with it? Definitely not gonna get another truck when this lease is up, but not too sure what I'd like to get into. Only requirements are a good AWD system and some decent space. Suggestions? |

2006 Honda Accord SE sedan. The most reliable couch I've ever owned! I actually mean that with the utmost respect.

All ears for me on this one - just picked up a 2011 e90 M3 w only 3400 miles. Will be a summer car.
Will install Blizzaks on my winter ride. Thinking Accord, Civic, 2002 4runner. |

I wintered my M3 this year. But I live on a long cul de sac that doesn't get much attention from the plows and the BMW was undrivable several times this (admittedly severe) winter.
So I'll be buying a winter beater next fall. Right now my top two choices are an e46 325xi Touring or a Subaru Forester XT. Either would have a three-pedal manual transmission. I had a 2010 Golf TDI last winter and it was a fantastic car, but I don't want to buy a FWD car again. |

2003 Mitsubishi outlander did the trick this winter in Chicago. It's not just the snow, but the roads and other drivers. I wouldn't risk the M in these conditions. Plus what I would have paid for NEW winter wheels and tires I got an almost whole car. The exhaust came apart somewhere on Halsted a few weeks ago.

i just traded in my '10 MR for the M. i had Michelin Alpin PA3 snow tires on her & it's unreal how well she stuck to the snow! as fun as the M is, i do miss the Evo... only negative for the OP is the tiny little trunk!

Here's what happened to my truck this winter. This is at the top part of my driveway. Even the best snow tires on the M wouldn't stand a chance here. Hence the need for 4wd/ AWD. |
