BMW M3 E93 Roof Problem

Hey everyone i was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem as i am currently having. Since the weather has finally gotten better, i was putting the top down an up but ever since yesterday the top does not fold. It unlocks and sort of try's to lift but it does not fully pull back and get into the trunk. Does anyone know how to fix this? Should i go through a car wash to see if there is any dirt blocking it? When i do press top down button, the top unlocks and i can see a gap between the windshield and the first panel but all i can do from there is press the close button and relock it to close the gap. Why is it not converting? Any help would be appreciated. Thankx.

You could try to open it manually, but slowly, and see if you can determine where it is getting hung up.

When my top refuses to fold into the trunk, I get a warning message on the screen. The message appears almost instantaneously after I depress the fold switch and the top, at that point, is barely off the windshield. The message tells me something in the trunk is in the folding path. In my trunk, there are two areas right behind the tail lights with warning labels telling me not to put anything there or the top wont fold. That's been my problem, so I'd recommend you make sure there is nothing on those areas.

no other choice than bringing it to the dealer. I had a lot of issues with mine since day one. They had to replaced the hydraulic pack (when the top didn't want to come out - not enough pressure) and also I had a failure of one of the latch in windshield frame (preventing the top to go down). And minor issues with sensors being misaligned. It's been ok for the last 2 years now.

Your pump relays may have gone bad. They are sometimes eferred to the salmon colored relays by the pump. They're cheap and if your out of warranty you might want to change them first. Check out page 38 on the attached odf.

Not sure about warranty

The car is below 80K and its a 2011, so i am not sure if warranty will cover it or not. The car is also a u.s car, and maintenance is always denied here in markham, ontario but i am not sure if they will do warranty related tasks. Also if that is the problem... that would be awesome, and hmm do you think if i just drive in to town + country bmw dealership, they will have a look at it? I really dont want to wait until 28th, especially since the weather is sooooo nice here in Markham.

So I took it to the dealership at town + country and they say that some sort of fluid has gotten in and because of that the motor stopped working. The problem is that I am the primary driver of this car and I can't think of any fluid that could have leaked in through the trunk. The fluid is apparently brown, and they say that's what caused the problem and they want to charge me 3200$ because it is not a part defect. Am i supposed to take this BS and proceed with them? or is there anything i can do. I have never dealt with a situation where they tell me something is wrong because of a fluid and blame it on me. The guy on the phone, said he would send me photos of the pictures of the underside, but still had not.

That doesn't sound good, but water may have gotten onto the system somewhere. This should show as a leak of hydraulic fluid first since our systems are sealed. If there really is water in the system there is a defect somewhere. If BMW can't find the cause it may happen again.

I'm not sure of the warranty criteria in Canada, but, in any case, in view of what you're being told, I would call the Canadian version of BMWUSA and lay out your point of view. When speaking to people in this organization, I found it helpful to have, beforehand, established in my mind what I want from them.
As an e93 owner, if you find the time, I'd appreciate knowing how this gets resolved.

I had this E93 M3 prior to my current M3 DCT ZCP.

I found this thread from the "other place" to be very helpful in maintaining the origami top.

No, they said 3200$ on the phone. I contacted BMW Group and BMW customer service and they said to speak with the service manager at BMW Town + Country. I have emailed him, and now I am just waiting for his reply. I will keep you guys updated. Thanks.

What colour would the hydrolic fluid be? They kept saying something about a brownish fluid.
