Exclamation Window Shadow Trim Paint Peeling>> Need some advice please!

I noticed the paint peeling on the leading edge of the black shadow trim. Anyone else have this issue? The car just came back from a detail (Polish and Wash) and am wondering if the buffing may have caused this? I don't see this as normal wear and tear but I could be wrong.

Any ideas how I can fix this? My thoughts are that the best fix would be using a paint pen. A brush would would just smear and cause a mess. If I were to use a paint pen, what color code is the black shadow trim?

I took some pictures. It is a little hard to capture the picture but I think you'll get the idea from the first picture. Any help appreciated. This thing is really bugging me

Saw a case like this on black trim ,and was caused by machine polish !
When they keep the polisher to long on the same spot (especially on the edges) it ends like it's visible in your pics !
So i'm almost 100 % sure this was caused by machine polish !
You will have to go back to the detail shop and push their nose on the facts !

I had that too. Mine wasn't caused by machine polishing. It just started chipping. My car was still covered under warranty. The dealer fixed it.

Am sure they will deny it so no point going down that road

What are my options?

Is there a paint pen for this color (Gloss Black)? I need the color code.

Can this part be easily replaced?

How did they fix it? Replaced it or paint touch up?

Thanks.

They replaced the shadowline trim. If your car is still under warranty. It should be covered

Thanks but what paint code? It would stand out if it's not a perfect match.

Did you buy used or new? Am wondering if this is just a wear issue?

I would use paint code 668 Jet Black. Use one of the small applicators and just cover the edge...and take your time. FWIW..I just went down to make sure that color was right (it is for my car at least) and actually noticed I too have some of that edge wear. I'm certain it's from high speed buffers.

You can either touch it up or replace it.

That usually happens when you are using a DA. If you are polishing make sure to tape that trim.

I bought used, 12k miles on the meter. Didn't see this until the other day so believe it have happened since I got the car. I had it polished but those guys are professionals so kind of doubt they would "screw" up that way.
Spoke with the dealer today who (obviously) never heard about it before. Their spontaneous reaction was to take care about it. Will send pictures and we'll go from there.

cheers

PS. Not keen to hear it is a wear issue on a $70k (used!) car that made 15k miles...

Thanks. Looks like my only choice would be Dr color chip for now. Too expensive to replace.

Just wrap over it with vinyl. It's cleaner then touchup paint and you won't have to worry about matching the existing black color. The black on the window trim is extremely difficult to match because it's a black chrome.

Red Baron, did you had this oden yourself, and it worked out nicely?

Had a few other details (rear spoiler, wents etc) wrapped which was great but honestly didn't think of these tiny trims to be possible to get nice.

I have done a ton of window trim wraps and so have others on here. If done right it looks OEM and you won't see that it's been wrapped.

What do you wrap it in? Satin or Flat black? Maybe I'll club that with the vinyl roof I need to get done from you.

My trim is Jet Black (as is my car)...the trim is definitely not black chrome. A vinyl wrap is certainly another option if you don't want to touch up with Dr. Colorchip. I'll try to do the touch up on my own trim soon and I'll post before and after pics.

Gloss black would be your best bet.

No, the window trim and side mirror housings for the e90 and e92 M3's are a direct match to the BMW edition side gill and kidney grills, which BMW calls Black Chrome. It has the same under color as Jet black except with a slightly different, more chrome like finish/clear coat. Why do you think many have discussed the oxidation that occurs on their trim? If the trim was jet black like the body color, this would not be happening. Many have tried to touch it up with jet black/jerez black touch up paint and none have been able to match it.

Please report back. Am curious to see if it matches up or not.
