Proof BMW is blowing smoke up our $$$
They say they couldn't import the GTS because it was too much to Federalize, BUT they can import 30 copies of the 30th Anniversary M5 with 600HP???

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

So a company tells you they can't do something because it costs too much and you think that's blowing smoke? Sounds like a straight shooting answer. Do you think a company that is in business to make profits for their shareholders would intentionally not bring to market a profitable product? Why would they do that?

This limited M5 is the same car with a retuned DME for a bit more power and some cosmetic parts added.
The M3 GTS contains a bespoke stroker motor, has no back seats and a roll cage built in. It is very different. If anything the anniversary M5 is a bolt-on affair similar to the Lime Rock Park.

I don't get why anyone would want it, especially tuned. Lag on the standard version is maddening; you could hammer the throttle on that one and squeeze in a drink of coffee before anything positive happened!

Simple, the US Demand for the GTS is low and the max price is low versus the cost of federalizing. This car has high demand and gets a premium price to make it worthwhile. Its $138,275. Virtually no one would pay over 100k for the GTS and it probably costs over 10k per car to federalize.

Put down the pipe. GTS had different crash structure occupant safety systems emissions controls and displacement. BMW probably contemplated a hp range for the s63tu for just this kind of thing, and I bet this ends up being the stock output of the upcoming x6m/x5m
