Idle bouncing after fill up at gas station
Have read a few threads on here about idle bouncing up / down after a fill-up.
Car = 2009 DCT M3 Convertible I've realized that, after my past 3 fill-ups, I'm getting this idle bounce. It does it once (generally at the next stop light after the gas station where I've filled up). Not more than once. It does not stall and it's not a huge deal (I'm used to old CIS injection lamba nonsense or early Bosch LH injection idle bounce from old Saabs haha)... Normally, idle is rock solid on this car. I searched around and see a few causes but no one "this is the deal here" definitive thread.. Does anyone know the root cause of this - or have a place for more info? Thanks |

^LOL it has nothing to do with what gas you use.
OP this is an ongoing issue. My guess is people are over filling the tank or air is getting caught inside causing a vapor lock. When I fill up, I stop at the first click and I have never had that happen. |

At least in my case it is not over filling the tank. It is not a particular brand of gasoline either. gpitts had his issue resolved so dig through the thread Vic posted. My car is in the body shop after being rear-ended and I hope to have it back Friday so I can bring it in to my dealer. I have a copy of gpitts service records and I will bring those along with me. The lead service tech at my dealer has seen my video and agrees there is a problem...

I will be updating my software to the most current, 240e, next weekend and do a couple of runs and see if that fixes it. If that does not do it, I will be replacing the ICV. I don't think that mine has the problem after fill ups. Since it does it whenever in the fuel range. I'll update on here and in the other threads, is this is fix for me, so people can also try that.

Sounds like a few things
Thanks for the info. Sounds like a symptom that at least a small percentage of M3's are experiencing, and dealers are replacing or looking at any of following: ICV... purge valve... updating software to "240E" version, breather stuff on fuel pump potentially.
I am more curious than anything... I don't think it's worth me trying to fix because the car runs brilliantly (and this happens literally for a brief period). I'll keep checking in. |
